BUZ’S STORY

I was born on November 7, 1947 (yep, 11-7-47, pretty cool!) at 1:30 p.m. in Bell Hospital, Williamsburg, Virginia. The hospital was located on Jamestown Road; the College of William and Mary (where I would attend law school 23 years later) was just across the street. The hospital does not stand today. My full name was Robert Francis Schultz, Jr.; I was named after my father, Robert Francis Schultz. At the time of my birth, he was 27 years old and a professor at William and Mary. My mother, Susan Sweeney Schultz, was a 28-year old homemaker. I was called “Bobby” at birth; I still have an engraved silver baby cup with “Bobby” engraved on it. However, my name changed to “Buzz” fairly early, when my sister, Susan Monin Schultz, who was two years older than me, when trying to say “Bob,” would say “Buzz.” So I became “Buzz” or “Buzzy.” A favorite schoolyard chant was “Buzzy Wuzzy wasn’t fuzzy, was he?” At some point, perhaps in college, I dropped “Buzzy” (too childish) and operated as “Buz Schultz” thereafter. Yes, with one “z”; trying to be unique, as I recall! If I had to pick a name for myself, it would be Buz. I love it !!!
