Hello! Welcome to Mortal Coil! Thanks for tuning in!

These pages are offered by Buz Schultz, a guy in his 70’s (-: who wants to share some things going on that he is interested in, and - for those who know me and wonder how I turned out as I am, (-: , I have created a section that provides some information about my ancestry — my family tree, if you will!

TIRED of saying: “Nobody listens to anybody anymore!” ? Well, me too !! Let’s try this: Some time ago, I attended a screening of “UNDIVIDE US” (https://undivideusmovie.com), a documentary movie challenging the notion that nobody listens anymore. The creators of the film were present and took questions. I am pleased to share the following excerpt from an email I received recently from Lauren, the Screening Manager of “Undivide Us”: Thanks for your interest in hosting a screening of UNDIVIDE US. I am excited to help coordinate an impactful event … and to be a dedicated resource for you to ensure the success of your screening. Two important things to know about your screening: 1. Hosting a screening is free! All we ask is that you use the film's Eventbrite for RSVPs (I'll handle the setup) and encourage attendees to take our impact survey after they watch the movie. The short impact survey is important to us as we seek to measure the film's impact on people, and every response counts. … I will create an Eventbrite page for your screening (that you will have full access to) and send you a link to use for promotions and to collect RSVPs. I will also create a Facebook event page that you can share with your network to help spread the word about your screening.

I am proceeding to explore sites for the screening.

MY FAMILY: I will start with the MATERNAL side of my family. My great, great, great, great grandfather, THOMAS ANDERSON, arrived in the Virginia colony in the first half of the 18th century. He settled in Gloucester County, which is near the Chesapeake Bay in eastern Virginia. But he eventually settled further inland, at Hanover County in the Virginia PIEDMONT, not too far from present day Richmond, Virginia. He had a son named Mathew, and Mathew married and had a son named William. William had a son Mathew, whose full name was Mathew Archer Anderson, so he is my great-great grandfather. He died in 1867 at age of 46. As you can see from the receipt BELOW, signed by Mathew A. Anderson in 1848, Mathew kept individuals in slavery. The document states: “I have received of Mary A. Anderson [his mother], the Administratrix of William P. Anderson, deceased (his father), seventeen hundred and fifty dollars in negroes, to wit: Edmund, John, Sallie, Jemima, and child Eliza. Given under my hand this 29th December 1848 - Mathew A. Anderson. PS Received also a horse worth fifty dollars.”
